New Clark City Stadium
Initially known as the “Philippine Sport City” or “Philippine Olympic City”, The New Clark City Stadium, a complex made for sports is under construction. Situated in the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, this 50 hectare sports infrastructure is planned to be one of the venues of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and for the ASEAN Para Games this 2020.
Before President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, the Philippine Olympic Committee had intentions of building a national training complex outside Metro Manila but none of these plans resulted to significant developments. Not until Duterte personally instructed Philippines’ Sports Commission Head, William Ramirez to spearhead the project. This lead to Ramirez talking with Executive Secretary Medialdea about plans to replace the old Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
After weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz finished with a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the plans to build the Philippine Olympic City in New Clark City was revealed by the PCS.
It was said by Ramirez that the new sports complex, will be one of the major attractions of New Clark City. Ramirez also said that it could possibly be the venue for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which the Philippines will host.
The PCS estimated that building the complex will cost between 3 billion Php to 6 billion Php. 1 billion Php savings from the PCS will be used to partly fund the construction by the BCDA a GOCC that progressed Clark, Subic, Villamor Airbase, and Fort Bonifacio.
